The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is descended from the Teckel family of dogs. This breed of dog is believed to have been in existence in Wales for over 3,000 years. It was brought in aboriginal form by the Celtic tribes who migrated from central Europe to Wales. This breed has had a long proven history as a great family dog since.

Personality and Temperament

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a very friendly and playful dog. They enjoy spending time around their family and love your attention. They are very approachable dogs with a warm and gentle demeanor. Their personalities are generally easy-going and fun to be around. This breed does well with children and other pets in the household.

Appearance and Grooming

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi has a thick double coat with two distinct shedding cycles; spring and fall. Daily brushing will help keep this pup’s coat looking and feeling great. Routine bathing every four to six weeks is also recommended. Making sure to incorporate routine nail trimming for this dog is also advised.

Care and Feeding

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are moderately active dogs and do need sufficient amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many Cardigan Welsh Corgi owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.
